Privacy Policy for 8 Ball

Effective date: 15 September 2026

Last updated: 15 September 2026

The short version

8 Ball does not collect or transmit anything. It is an Apple Watch app with no networking code in it at all: no server, no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDK. Your question is never typed anywhere, so the app never receives it. The only things saved are the skin, emblem, and language you picked, and they are saved on your watch.

Who we are

8 Ball (“the app”) is developed by IVAN CAYABYAB (“we”, “us”).

For any question about this policy or your privacy, contact us at ivnsjdev@gmail.com.

What 8 Ball stores, and where

8 Ball is a fortune-telling ball: you ask a yes-or-no question, shake, and it shows one of twenty replies. The three choices you can make in Settings are stored on your watch using watchOS’s standard app preferences storage. We never receive them.

What 8 Ball stores Primary storage Sent automatically to us?
The skin you have chosen for the ball On your watch No
The emblem you have chosen for its shoulder On your watch No
The language you have chosen in Settings On your watch No

That is the complete list. There is nothing else: no profile, no identifier, no usage counter, no log of what you asked or what you were told. The app does not transmit any of it to us or to another company, and we do not collect, sell, rent, or share it. Device backups are controlled by the operating system, not initiated by 8 Ball.

Your question is never collected, because it is never entered

8 Ball has no text field, no microphone use, and no dictation. You ask the ball out loud or in your head, and the app never learns what you asked — there is no input for it to arrive through. It picks one of the twenty replies at random without any knowledge of the question.

The answer is not kept either

The reply on screen lives in memory for as long as it is being shown. It is deliberately never written to storage, there is no history screen, and it is gone when the app closes. Nothing accumulates between sessions.

While the watch is in Always-On dim state, the answer window is marked privacy sensitive, so watchOS redacts it until you raise your wrist. Someone glancing at a lowered wrist does not read your answer.

No account, no sign-in, no cloud

8 Ball has no user accounts and there is nothing to register for. It does not ask for an email address, phone number, date of birth, or any other account identity. It does not use iCloud, CloudKit, or any other sync service, so your skin, emblem, and language do not travel between devices. It is a standalone watch app with no companion iPhone app, so it shares nothing with a phone. Your operating-system device backup may include 8 Ball’s local app data if you have chosen to back up the device.

Motion, and why there is no permission prompt

To notice a shake, 8 Ball reads the watch’s device-motion data — specifically the user-acceleration vector, which is the movement of your wrist with gravity already removed. It is sampled while the ball is on screen, examined immediately to decide whether a deliberate shake just happened, and discarded. It is not recorded, not stored, and not transmitted, and it is used for nothing except starting a roll.

watchOS does not gate this data behind a permission prompt the way iOS does, which is why no prompt appears and why the app ships without a motion usage description: declaring a purpose string that the system never shows would be misleading rather than informative. Turning on Wrist Detection or Always-On is a watch setting, not something 8 Ball asks for.

Permissions we do not ask for

8 Ball requests no system permissions whatsoever. It does not access your camera, photo library, microphone, location, contacts, calendar, health or workout data, notifications, or Siri, and no permission prompt will ever appear.

Sound, haptics, and the Digital Crown

8 Ball plays no audio. Feedback is haptic — three taps while the ball thinks, one on the answer — through Apple’s standard watch haptics. Turning the Digital Crown winds the ball up. None of these read anything from your watch or send anything from it.

Diagnostics

The app writes one note to the system log, when device motion is unavailable on the hardware it is running on, so that shake-related bug reports can be understood. It contains no personal information and no user data. It stays on the device under Apple’s unified logging, is not a crash reporter, and is not sent to us.

Purchases

8 Ball is a one-time purchase. You pay the App Store price once, and that is the only payment there is: no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no trial, no paid unlock, and no advertising. The app does not link StoreKit at all, so there is no purchase code inside it and nothing in the app itself can ever charge you — the single charge is taken by Apple at download, not by us. Buying it from the App Store leaves a record on your Apple Account that Apple keeps, and that purchase is between you and Apple: we never receive your Apple Account credentials, payment details, card number, or billing address, and we operate no purchase server. Apple’s processing is covered by its App Store & Privacy notice. Use of the app itself is governed by Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement, and App Store downloads by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Support communications

If you email us for support, we receive your email address, your message, and any device, app-version, screenshot, or other information you choose to include. We use it only to respond, investigate the issue, and improve 8 Ball. Do not send information that is not needed for your request.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we handle support mail on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us and in fixing the problems they report. There is no other processing to find a basis for, because 8 Ball sends us nothing on its own.

Support email is optional and happens outside 8 Ball. It is processed by your email provider and by Google, which hosts our support mailbox, under the Google Privacy Policy. Google’s mail servers are located in the United States, so a support message you send us is processed there. We keep support messages for up to 24 months, and longer only where a legal, security, or record-keeping obligation requires it. You may ask us to delete your support correspondence by emailing the address below.

8 Ball can show this privacy policy’s address from its Settings, and opening it hands the link to your paired iPhone, because a watch has no browser of its own. That destination — this page — is served by GitHub Pages, which handles the visit under GitHub’s Privacy Statement. 8 Ball does not add any identifier of you or of your copy of the app to that link. The app opens no other external address.

Randomness, and what it is not

Each reply is drawn uniformly from the twenty, using the system random number generator, and the draw happens before the ball starts moving — the animation shows a result already chosen rather than steering toward one. The app does not learn from you, does not adapt to you, does not profile you, and has no model of you to adapt with. Nothing you do changes what the next answer will be.

What we do NOT do

To be explicit, 8 Ball does not:

8 Ball’s App Store privacy label reflects this: Data Not Collected.

Data retention and deletion

To delete 8 Ball’s local data: delete the app from your watch. This removes the skin, emblem, and language you had chosen. There is nothing else to remove, and no server copy exists anywhere. iCloud or computer device backups are controlled separately by you and Apple and may still contain app data; Apple explains how to manage iCloud backups.

Support emails are separate from app data. You may request deletion of support correspondence as described above, subject to any information we must retain for legal, security, or record-keeping reasons.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, or similar laws — including the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

For anything created inside 8 Ball, you exercise these rights directly: the three preferences live in the app’s local container on your watch and we hold no copy that we can produce, amend, or erase on your behalf. For support correspondence that you sent us, contact us to request access, correction, or deletion. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, and we have never done so.

If you believe we have not met our obligations, you may contact us at the address above, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

8 Ball is rated 4+ and is family-friendly. It is a general-audience app rather than one directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in their country) — it collects none from anybody. There is no chat, sharing, social feature, advertising, or purchase through which a child could be reached or charged. A parent or guardian should send any support email on a child’s behalf.

The twenty replies are the classic toy’s replies and are not advice. 8 Ball is a toy for settling what to have for lunch, and nothing in it should be relied on for any decision that matters.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
